Piha's Elliot Paerata - Reid claimed event one of the Billabong Grom Series presented by Oceanbridge last weekend dominating an action packed final of the Under 16 Boys Division at Tay Street. Gabriela Sansom from Auckland, took her forehand attack to the lefts running down the beach and won the Under 16 Girls Division. This coming weekend sees the combination of two events rolled into one at Whangamata with the postponed Billabong Pro presented by Sony and the Billabong Grom Series presented by Oceanbridge both taking place at Whangamata from Friday 10th February.

World Champion longboader Taylor Jensen was victorious at the third event of the 2012 Hyundai Tour event held at Sandy Bay. Jensen was unstoppable in the event posting 17.35 points out of 20 in the final to beat Australian Mitch Surman. Kiwi surfer Thomas Kibblewhite placed third in the final. Local favourite Wini Paul from Sandy Bay stormed to her first victory in the womens event beating young Australian Sam Suendermann in the dying minutes of final.
