Piha's Elliot Paerata - Reid claimed event one of the Billabong Grom Series presented by Oceanbridge over the weekend after dominating an action packed final of the Under 16 Boys Division at Tay Street. Gabriela Sansom from Auckland, took her forehand attack to the lefts running down the beach and won the Under 16 Girls Division.
Champion longboader Taylor Jensen (USA) was victorious at the third event of the 2012 Hyundai Tour event held at Sandy Bay, Whangarei. The event doubles as the first Australasian Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Longboard Qualifying Series event attracting a star studded field of surfers. Jensen was unstoppable in the event posting 17.35 points out of 20 in the final to beat Australian Mitch Surman. Kiwi surfer Thomas Kibblewhite placed third in the final ahead of Jared Neal (Aus) in fourth.
