Tuesday, 9th February 2010

Good morning,

It is all about the East coast today with a solid south ground swell passing by out in the deep Pacific. No real swell out on the West coast breaks. Check out your local surf report see what's going on.

The Hyundai Pro Longboard tour finally kicked off at Sandy Bay over the weekend and also the Billabong Grom Series presented by Oceanbridge was completed at Tay Street. There was a bit of an international feel to both competitions. At Tay Street South African surfer Dylan Lightfoot won the Under 16 Boys Division. Gisborne surfer Jayda Martin Fitzharris took out the girls equivalent to defend her title from 2009.

Up at Sandy Bay the heat of the weekend was the semi-final featuring former World Champion (2006) Josh Constable (Noosa, AUS) and USA Champion Taylor Jensen (Oceanside, CA). Constable surfed a perfect ten point ride! Jensen went onto win the event. Congratulations to our own Daisy Thomas beating the in-form Mischa Davis in the final to take out the woman's division.

Check out Doug's wave which is among this years entires in the Oakley Surfing Life Big Wave Awards. It is bit of a beast!

Enjoy your Tuesday, Miles
