SurfFest, surfing film festival 2008 winner!
Auckland, Wellington, Gisborne and Dunedin all screened the festival which featured films from surfers all over the country, including a Brazilian and a French take on Kiwi surfing styles. Last year it happened in Wellington, but this year it went wider to the whole country.
Over 300 people attended and around $1500 was raised for Surf Aid International.
Wellington Christian Surfers representative and film fest organiser Dan Eves, was stoked with the festival. It was organised by Christian Surfers with a goal to get the surfers hanging out together out of the water for a change, and to put on a quality event for the community.
"It really profiles a strong local perspective on surfing here in Aotearoa, and gets surfers honing their camera skills too. it also showed that to make a great film, you don't necessarily need expensive gear. the winner, and some of the finalists used real low tech stuff, even the mpeg function on a digital stills camera. it was peoples flair and love of surfing that drove them to be creative."
2008 winner was once again from a foreign perspective, from Frenchie Nicolas Brikke. He taped a camera to his board and mixed some wicked long board action, that even shortboarder riders could appreciate.
