Some of the highlights were JC Susan's wave in the Open Semi final where he rode the entire width of the bay on one wave ending right by Lion Rock and Mike Jolly's epic 300 metre ride that began as a perfect peeling 4 foot left on the bar that then linked up with a quality right hander that brought him all the way back into the sand in the centre of the beach.
The waves were there to be had but it was Tane Wallis (Piha) who used his precision surfing on both the inside and the outside to just pip JC Susan (Mt Maunganui) in the final and win the $800 first place cheque.
Subarn Linklater placed 3rd and Zen Wallis 4th.
In the Over 30's final, the waves were standing up on the outside bank and a huge gaff in the pocket of a gnarly 6' left secured the first prize and $500 cheque for Mike Mulcahy, (Piha). Kyle Williams (Akld), came in second with some consistent form, with Shane Grimes (Piha) in 3rd and Vinnie Leite (Muriwai) in 4th.
The Over 40's also benefited from the clean conditions with 2009 Roaring 40 Champs, Morgan Cronin placing 1st, from Brian Young (2010 National Over 40 Longboard Champ) placing 2nd, while Phil Wallis (Piha) and Tui Eves (Karekare) placed 3rd and 4th respectively.
The Over 50's division saw Clive Barron (Piha) take 1st with Mike Jolly (Piha) in 2nd.
In the Women's, Maiya Thompson (Akld) and Heather Easterbrook (Sandy Bay), finished equal on points with Maiya taking first place and the new HC Surfboard on a countback. Heather's consistent surfing throughout her heats placed her 2nd by the slightest margin with Firth Bidois-Anderson (Akld) placing 3rd and Anna Jolly (Piha) 4th.
