A Wellington company run by two surfers has come up with a vending machine that allows surfers to buy surf wax and sunscreen just before they hit the water.

Local surfers Tim Bamford and Ben Fernandez, Directors of Waitiki Surf Co have launched a unique new concept in Lyall Bay, Wellington. Their goal is to provide local surfers with surf wax, and eventually sunscreen, on location at surf spots around the country.

Having surf wax avaliable on location 24/7 eliminates the chances of getting caught short on the day. Surfwax is an essential product which aids performance and safety in the waves.

In conjunction with the Wellington City Council and with support from the Wellington Boardriders Club they have installed a vending machine which will allow surfers to purchase these products at current market prices, without charging a premium for the convenience.

Of the two brands available in the vending machine, one will be locally made surfwax 'Sticky Johnson', as they have a keen interest in supporting local industry where possible.

Their goal is to roll out the concept nationwide next year at selected locations around NZ, and also to evolve existing relationships with key organisations within the industry.

Ultimately they would like to expand into the rest of Australasia as they believe the concept could be well received on the other side of the Tasman .

"Convenience is everything. Its a simple concept to provide a simple service. All you need is two 2's and a 1."
