Daisy Thomas snatched victory from Jess Santorik (Rag) once again in the Women’s Longboard Division.
The win is the second of the year for Thomas who takes a substantial lead on the Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour after just two of six events. Placing second in the final was Santorik with Anna Jolly (Piha) in third and Jo Moore (Tara) in fourth.
In the Open Longboard Division Daniel Proctor (Gis) took his first ever National Title after opting to surf the lefthanders while the other three surfers went right. Proctor has long been the upcoming surfer in his discipline. Today’s win may well be his ‘coming of age’. After two events of the Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour, Proctor now finds himself in second place on the ratings behind today’s runner up Thomas Kibblewhite (Auck).
“Yeah I will be up there on the ratings but this win is what means everything to me – the Nationals are where it is at” said Proctor. “The national title is what all the boys at home see as the ultimate goal so I am stoked to knock it off, that’s what it is all about, this one is the big one”.
