So what should be done? Should they be allowed to paddle into the middle of the contest area and protest? Or should somebody stop them? And if somebody stops them, is that somebody liable for prosecution, as no-one owns a lineup loading zone.

Been through this before methinks..

1. obviously the guys at the world longboard championships at stent a couple of years ago were too tough for this guy to confront, and as far as i can gather the naki hasnt been flooded with mal riders since that particular piece of international exposure..... while the water is p00 brown and cold its never gonna be packed out with international surfers looking for the perfect wave... so... meh.....

2. IMO as far as contests are concerned they should wait thier turn like everyone else... Fitzroy is fine, it would be rude to move it to stent if the waves are on. if its at stent so be it. pick your spot and stick to it.

3. also any contest organiser worth sh1t hooks in the toughest locals to regulate...

security firm...

Were he dead, Roy would be spinning in his grave

4. Its a contest, i dont give a flying f0ck what these sponsored show ponies do, go surfing somewhere else, not like theres no choices in the Naki.... meh again

all the above being said.... GO PAIGE!!

Agree with Statik (for once!) - The locals need to pull their necks in. Jeez, so what the Dream Tour hits Stent. Even if the P00 brown water somehow attracts hoards of surfers to the naki, it's not like there aren't more than a dozen world class breaks and another dozen secret spots - that should be able to split up any crowds.

Oh, and contrary to popular belief, static is very passive in the water. Minds his own business, respects the man on the peak, and doesn't rark anyone. Sometimes he even gets his share of waves.

also considering some of the highly localised and name spots used for the world tour im surprised no one has tried this on in Hawaii... oh wait a minute, the Wolfpak are contest and water security...

The Wolfpak.... regulating the lineup in the interests of locals and all surfers until someone rocks up with a bucketload of cash....

Nah. it's pretty sweet brother. You either grab your rail and punch out the back or straighten out, flick your board out in front of you and jump into the water backside first.

There are a couple of absolute numb skulls up there. In saying that some comp organizers have been pretty insensitive to the wishes of the locals over the years and they should accept that fact.

Try that at Piha and see how far it gets you. Closeouts at Piha = guaranteed flogging... unless its one of those rare days where its only 2-3 foot or something, then your sweet to try for a floater to finish your wave.

Small closeouts are worse than medium size. Medium size it grabs you round the noggin and pitches you. Size small, and you're squatting so low over your board that the only way to get drilled is straight down onto the deck. Which is when, oh, I dunno, you stick your great garking date thru the deck of the powerfish... Mr Sharko.

i was at the mount once, got up early for the glass, went for a drive a spotted a nice bank so went over the dune for a better look and noticed the girls were setting up a comp..fine, went back down the rd and spotted a better bank so hit it alone..all for about 30 mins till the girls comp turned up! they put up 'comp zone flags'. and started their thing. i got some stink eye looks from a few girls..don't know why, hardly my fault the take off peak was outside the flags and the waves passed right through 'their zone'.

i reckon if i had been wearing a bikini i probably woulda won that first round.

contests = care factor zero

tow in surfing = care factor one diminishing... you know its wrong when something as incomprehensible to the common herd as surfing becomes a staple of the 6pm news as long as it features waves you couldnt surf except off the end of a tow rope and through a cloud of 2 stroke smoke. (I just fast forward through the tow in stuff in videos these days)

pros = im tempted not to buy surf branded gear so they can pay for thier trips like the rest of us

dream tour = whos dream? 30 odd surfers I guess?

im kinda with the protest and not with it as well

i see both sides
