There are stacks of good waves North of Tora. I was up there two weeks ago. You can only drive so far, after which access to the land can become an issue. In any case, seek and ye shall find!

Au contraire SNAP, there is at least one epic right point North of Tora which, in all likelihood, has never been surfed. An associate of mine, well versed in surfing, worked for a time in the area as a bee-keeper. His reports back of the set-up and length of ride were astonishing to say the least. As I say though, access is a major issue. Unless you've got permission to drive through the station, your best bet would be to explore by boat.

If only hiring a helicopter + pilot wasn't so expensive. The best bet would be to own a dirt/quad bike, with a surfboard rack on the side. Lock it up with a local farmer and you'd be sussed

Surfed a few good waves north of tora, maybe not 15k north. Watch out for old whitey

Deer pens I surfed it back in 1993. best right hand wave in the wairarapa there are others up there that go off.Pete the old man said I was the first he had ever seen in all his years there surfing .Rob saw that place too when he was working there as a farm hand cutting down thistles.I was living north of tora back then .

I was waiting for someone to name that spot. Access is the major issue up there.

That first one looks like a mint set up. Is google maps where you got your Aukland island inspiration?

Huge call considering there is a right hander considered to be world class further south. But if Deer Pens works on a South swell it does have huge potential!

No not a huge call at all,When I lived down there I surfed just about every wave there is to be surfed,and I got the creds to back it up,ask around Howard R and them will tell you or Neil B or moody and cass .like I bet not one of you have even surfed all the 17 waves on offer at tora to start with. I can describe the ride any wave around the wairarapa that any of you sheep ride and then some.Tora point at 3mtrs on a sw swell goes off yeah but then the spit left at 10' plus on a sw swell nw wind is like pipe Hawaii for sure,better then the bowl at Gizzy island by far. Then there's wainuiomata sick but to many people .Problem with the ferry it's to short a ride Not as long as deer pens.When I lived there I would not be a sheep and surf where you all go to most of the time ,I would look side way's for somewhere eles.The bombie left at western lakes is very cool on bigger days.Te Humenga point is very good too,west peek or on the left reef zone.If you think you got what it takes to even just get to deer pens then just do it.From Pahaora car park it's a 2.5hour walk one way ,or from the over end at Te Awaiti station there is no queens chain so you need to get permission (good Luck with that too)I was lucky I could drive through.You all have not seen the best wairarapa wave untill you do the hard yards go there ,Deer pens best at (low tide west wind south west swell) strait out in front of the farmers deer pens.It's just out of shot to the left in the first picture.Dont forget if you ever get there to remember I was the first surfer on it and I named it.
P.S,don't be a sheep all your life,life is too short.Good luck happy surfing

Craps = Ning Nong.

Humenga is the left hand reef/point a couple of bays before craps and Markos right ... most keep on travelling past because craps is a little more user friendly.

Humenga is generally fat shifty garbage. There are a couple of better Cr4ps alternatives nearer to Cr4ps. That's my opinion anyway.
