Roy had his bus parked up about 200m inland of that reef in the second pic. Best beach in NZ I reckon, had quite a few nude dips on that one cos there's just never anyone around!

I've been meaning to do a trip up there for some time now. Looks like I got lucky with the waves, although I did miss the big swell this weekend. Some of the best beachies I've ever surfed.

Looks awesome, got a cheap place to stay to recommend on GBI?
just stay in a camp ground if you want real cheap

About 2 metres inside that flax bush. Will cost you nothing and there's a long drop a mere 20 metres to your right.

Actually the better campground is at that beach in the first of Spuds pics, Awana. It's sheltered and there's some good fishing very close by, and Awana is a pretty primo beachy.

Sharks everywhere though.

Sick shot Marko. I had it pretty sweet at the bar. Maybe a foot over head on the sets with only three of us out.

I remember being up on the ridge way above the kaitoke creek one autumn day, perfect lines were peaking about 50 yards outside those rocks and big righthanders were peeling flawlessly all the way into palmer's beach, it was relentless with ten wave sets and perfect weather. Of course there was no one out. It was absolutely mesmerising I sat in a huge pohutakawa tree which is up there and just watched it for ages, I didn't have a board or wetsuit at the time, as I'd sold the gear to buy food a few weeks before. It still makes me feel strangely desperate to think about it.

Yeah, Barrier is an amazing place to visit but I reckon I'd go nuts living there. Putaruru is a nice looking town Roy.

I say imagine that nice little swell hitting my Concreef @ Orewa and give you the fingers.
All we need now is my Concreef.
I'm thinking of starting a petition to correct the spelling of Orewa, it should be spelt SUPtown
