ahh, i see.

hmmm...i'm sittin on the fence, i feel for shore boys, mainly cus when i lived at muriwai valley i would drive over some road grafity that abused shoreboys..and i always thought that was a bit w@nky...so shoreboys gets my sympathy vote.

and random is interesting cus of the variety of stuff that turns up.

i think i'll just continue to even the race...just for the hell of it.

That is Milford Reef, it's just down the road from my house. That is what it was like during Cyclone Ivy. It's not 6-8ft, it's 4-5ft. It's a pretty filthy wave though. There was plenty of barrell time going donw on low tide (the above pic is high tide).

Also, the first shot from way above is surely The Spit down in the lower Wairarapa. Always been keen to hit that spot. If the conditions are right maybe I'll head that way for this years road trip.

I don't think Milford Reef has ever been 6-8ft. It would require a 6m+ NE swell, which I don't recall ever happening. If it were any bigger than 5ft the left would close out on all tides as it is quite rocky the whole way through there. The right hander might still work though. That said, there are a plethera of about 5 point breaks that would probably work onthat size all within a 10min walk of Milford Reef, so if it did ever get that big it'd be game on for all those people who wanted to surf "once in a lifetime" waves.

I was joking Jabes, both pics are in Bali.

#1 is Balyan(sp?) which looked like fun until we got out there and saw it. Very shifty peak before it would heave and explode. Very heavy. Saw a water buffalo get slaughtered on the beach too for afters.

#2 is Canggu, a very nice beach/reef combo.

In that first pic jabes, how big is the west when it breaks out that far? Might give you some idea. It's a river bar and you can just see the river at the bottom left of the pic.

It looks increidbly like Milford in the first shot. The wave even putts out to pretty much nothing on the inside, just like Milford.

But I should have paid more attention - the foliage is a definite give-away. There are no flax bushes anywhere near the waterfront at milford reef. Just houses right on the beach then a concrete path. Foot in mouth indeed.

Cry time.

If the Shore ever fires up properly with a 6m NE swell, then we can all meet at Milford Beach and I'll walk you all around the various points you could choose to surf. Mostly lefts, but a couple of rights in there too (although I couldn't know for sure, cause the only time it ever got big enough for some of the spots to fire up I spent the half the day at Milford Reef and half the day at a Spot X up near Orewa).

yeah thats the part i meant is no real reference to see how far out it is. and river bars are deceptive too at the best of times

Your support for the Holy Church of Spud has not gone unnoticed brother sir fir the pious. You can be assured of taking your place along side me when the day of reckoning arrives. I now must issue this command: Go out amongst the heathen masses and preach the good word of the Holy Church of Spud. These are my commandments for the masses:

1/ The Holy Church of Spud declares that SUP riding is an abomination and anybody partaking in this forbidden activity is surely damned.

2/ The Holy prophet Spud, humble servent of the Holy Church of Spud declares that the Unholy Church of Blunt is to be avoided at all costs. Any Blunt teachings are to be ignored, ridiculed or destroyed.

3/ The infidel lands of Random Posts must never be visited by any follower of the Holy Church of Spud, unless for the purposes of attempting to convert the deceived masses to the one true path.

4/ The great topic, Shore Boys, is the house of the Holy Church of Spud. no promotion of the most wicked Church of Blunt , or the discussion of things SUP will be tolerated.

The humble prophet spud has spoken. Now he is tired and will sneak off for a quick nap.
