Now I'd like to see some tropical cyclone action heading our way.

Maybe I can catch another Milford Reef session like the Cyclone Ivy one. Don't know if any of you were there, but it was off its chops 4-5ft that morning and clean as a whistle. And then in the afternoon I surfed Spot X at Orewa which was a filthy 3-4ft and hollow and smashed me.

Hasn't been a proper good cyclone swell since. Why couldn't that weather pattern just put itself on constant replay. Then the NE coast would be the place to be, and we'd even get town waves in Auckland breaking frequently.

Yeah, the places that get the least swell usually have the best setups.

Aucks west strikes me as a place that does get good quite a bit, but luck is often a factor in being at the right place at the right time.

I have just returned from Wellington, and what I saw there chilled me to the bone...literally

I saw mighty rollers steaming in from the south held up by hurricane strength Northerlies sending tremendous white manes of spume arcing high overhead - from my vantage point high above Seatoun- the reefs and beaches of Pencarrow looked dangerous and lonely places for a man to be.

As i drank coffee and consumned date scones I wondered if the water was as cold as it really looked- and if somewhere on the far coast Spud was carving up some god-forsaken deserted face with workman like precsion, at peace deep within himself as the ocean smashed itself against the dark and unforgiving rocks.

The scones were good....but all to soon they were consumed, and it was time to go.

Great piece of writing.
