It's all swings and roundabouts. We've just had one of the worst winters on record for south swell this year. Looks like it's coming right now though.

are you serious? i thought it was about the most horrible thing ever. we stopped at this young couples house and they were burning coal. then this "kid" came around the corner, just didnt look right. was it the inbreeding down there or the coal i dont know but the whole thing played out like a horror story. i wanted to get out of westport asap

And who would blame you SNAP? A most terrifying experience! I for one have never seen any unusual looking kids there so my visits to Westport have mostly just involved smelling the coal smoke. (Oh and I actually scored waves there once, although that was in 1988)

Just had a sweet little surf, found a decent Lloyd banks and it was wider than it was high. hell sweep and pretty small but better than a kick in the nuts!

I don't know, the set ups down there are way better and theres more of them. I think the land of endless beach breaks just gets to me sometimes
But then come summer when alot of the southern coast ends up small to flat then you cant beat it really.
If you think over the last 3 years we have had 2 amazing summers and one decent summer of surf most days with offshores or limited winds so is hard to complain about that, but depends if you're allowed to surf every day or not i suppose ![]()

I don't think there's any argument that Aucks is a bit more consistent during the summer, however I reckon I'd get pretty sick of surfing black sand beachies day in day out. It's like that when I go down to Dunnos: For the first few days I'm loving surfing the beachies every day, but after a week I'm over it and want to surf something different.
I'm going to be in Aucks over Christmas so I'll be able to test this theory!

rather be bald than retarted like Jelly
christmas in aucks Spud? why? actually, don't bother answering that i'm not all that interested.
i spose one good point is you'll be able to meet almost every other auck surfer.
just kidding, aucks can be good at xmas as a few head out of town.
my list of must do's is a trip to karekare, maori bay, and maybe 12 mile muriwai...then there is the north east... if your lucky it may coincide with cyclone season...dawnies are the go.

nah jelly(although that is a hassle), it's cus aucks has two coasts not far apart, if the winds are light then you can pretty much bet on an onshore at 10.30am...both coasts as the land heats up.
has he Snap? okay ignore my post Spud.

surely you jest? yep lots of coast line...the crowds bugged me. the last time i went to my local there was 80 guys on 4 peaks..40 guys were kooks. i went for a drive up the beach, found a nice bank to myself(although nowhere near as good as the local) had a surf, went home and told the mrs i was ready to leave town. never looked back...unless it's farken freezing and then i think it would be nice to have a surf in boardies.

I'll vouch for that. The times I've surfed in Aucks over Christmas there's been bugger all people. I guess everyone must be on holiday.

I reckon if I had a choice I'd live in Invercargill rather than Aucks. So many good spots down there and almost no crowds. Surf to 11pm in summer as well!

Auckland crowds do suck even on weekdays.
Unless you go to Jabes' local beachies where most people can't be bothered walking down the beach to get some uncrowded peaks.

..and then full light at 5am for the dawny spud. i don't think i'll ever live in aucks again, sure it has it's positives, but the positives far outweigh here imo. i did a list of pro's vs cons. on the pro's side i filled the page..on the con side i had 'cold'. i don't surf as much as i did in aucks, but thats more my own choice. however, when i do go for a surf i get good waves 9/10 trips. but yeah, the cold...man, this week has been bitter.
talk of a possible million dead lambs by the end of all this...gutted for the farmers. won't help the economy much either.

another con is no stadium too
or was that too soon
--------------------------------
Chairman of the sub 1000
haha, true Jabes. maybe the new one will cope next time.
other places had roof collapses too.
another con is the lack of a decent skatepark. after 5 yrs of d!cking around and numerous meetings/fieldtrips a plan was finally developed and a completion price of $350k was put to the council. another meeting later and the council upped that to $700k. $160k of that was to provide the land(which already has a crap skatepark on it), drainage, and demolition of the old park. then it was up to the skaters to fund raise for different sections to be built over time and the council would match the skaters fund raising dollars for dollars.
i saw the new botany park that was built for $1mil..approx 4 times bigger than the plan for here..strange that.

Perhaps could let you in on a few of the lesser known surf beaches aswell
that bank we scored at karekare that time you were up in AK was pretty damn good.
