at brighton this morning. bout 2 metres. didnt hang round to find out what type it was. got straight the fuk outta the water.

meanwhile, I always tell my paranoid girlfriend that nobody ever gets attacked by Sharks @ brighton.
it was about 15-20m away. i was paddling out over a wave and saw it in the next wave of the set. i know your not suppose to panic, but i turned round and paddled like a mad man. looked brown so maybe a bronze whaler or something?
id call that pic 2ft but the rark is wearing a little thin. mind you itd still work

Mate ive seen asian guys fishing off the pier with the full set up,you know how they like to look the part.
And baiting up the water with burley is just plain dumb.
I got a line around the neck one day and had this asian fulla yelling a screaming at me...so i tried to pull his rod in and couldnt...so I flipped my board over and cut his line on my fins....and he was spewing but I yelled out that I would gladly meet him up at the beach to duke it out if he wanted

I dunno know how they'd police it or if it's been tried, but they should because it makes the place stink - figuratively and literally
Showing my beginner status here.. what are the reasons for surfing close to the actual pier?
I go north a bit so I don't get in peoples way. All this news with the sharks and fishers surely gives me another reason to stay away from it..

They'll be saying "Dere so menny mile of beech, and dey have to surf at only sticky-out bit we fish off?"
Don't get me wrong, I'd be furious if I saw someone tip a bucket of blood and guts off the pier for shark-berley as per the reports.
But as far as kids and dads with rods and squid, I'm happy to give them a hundred meter or so wide berth on the very odd occasion I surf near the pier.

Quad6, there's sometimes a rip running along the pier piles that helps get out. Other times, that's just a recipe for a close call to a concrete smooshing. Also, some say the sand builds up around the pier, and provides good banks. I dunno about that - I think a drive up or down the way can usually reveal an equally working bank with the added bonus of no-one else on it. Or maybe that's the problem - closer to pier = bigger audience for my choice hacks cos I'm cool.

Yep right here in Chch. He cut me off on Lincoln Rd over the railway lines merge, forced me into the oncoming traffic. So next time it double laned, I passed him and showed him the one way Jesus sign. I get to school (6th former) and turns out he's a fellow student. He stops behind me, leaves his mum sitting in the passenger seat and kicks the sweet daylights out of me while I'm unconscious on the ground.
School convinces me not to lay a complaint as he's a 'good student' and hasn't any previous problems. Later I realise this means 'his parents pay us a king's ransom in foreign fees, and we don't want him deported'. 
That would be right,you probley wern't the only one he stitched up either.
yea i remember sharks at mc cormaks bar on thursday nites fighting them in the old pool bar those darn skinheads thinkin they ruled the place while smokin jacket played

well todays surf was like a river at brighton the sweep was insane waimari was like the waimak in gentle flow moro hop the swell gets more str8 grrr

and yes in chch its been surf city last couple of weeks spoke to a drug dealer said his sales been down last couple of weeks dew to the surf hmm
had to laugh couple of weeks ago in chch star said fisherman were trowing guts over side to get fish n sharks i lived in a place like where you didnt need any fish guts to throw into ocean surfers a just part of the food chain for sharks if you get struck you just unluky and become a ledgend when you dead hmm
