Went for a surf on the Welly West on Sunday. I reckon the water was about 17 deg. Sunny with no wind, I reckon you could have got away with a springy. That's unseasonably warm by the way. The funny thing is that water temp during summer was unseasonably cold. It's warmer now than it was in Feb!
I surfed a winter in wellywood way back,Iam pritty sure with no rubber socks and a 3mill steamer.

There's something seriously wrong with the swellmap data for Chch beachies. But looking at Pines beach, Kooks, Amberley, it looks like a good ol fashioned NNE swell, gets smaller up the coast. Which means Kooks should be long loggin' lefts of perfection. Definitely time to treat Mrs db to some chocolate and a back-massage.

Yeah a few times. Think the last time was last summer with Marko and DS, was some solid 4ft coming thru, we were sitting a mile out at sea, long chunky rides, and then half an hour later when we got out it was 2ft and barreling its t1t off and I almost had to get back in.
The funner question is, have you surfed Leithfield on the high tide
last time checked amberley with DS we saw a cracking set peel through as we pulled up. It then stopped breaking

I think I may have seen one or two on TM, quite short like 6 nothing, yellow highlights, fat rails, almost fishy, but not fish tale? Sound like them?
It wasn't close out but it was sucking shingle. A nicely timed pull out and it was all good.
