Gisborne surfer Maz Quinn took a convincing victory at the Billabong Pro completed at Whangamata over the long weekend. The win elevates him from 13th to first on the Export Gold Series ratings after two of five events for the season.

Some images from the 2010 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships kicking off this week in Piha. Twenty-one countries from across the globe have confirmed their involvement in the pinnacle event for under-18 surfers. Participating countries include: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ecuador, Fiji, France, Great Britain, Hawaii, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Tahiti, USA, and Vanuatu. Competition will start at 8.00am on the 21st January at Piha Beach, Auckland.

Northerlies had been hammering the capital for a solid few days and finally dropped off just as a solid ground swell was peaking along Wellingtons South coast. It was a holiday Monday the 4th January and after hitting a dawnie I swung by Lyall Bay to see what carnage was going on. I was surprised to see some order at the Wall with the drop'ins pulling out and everyone surfing in peace and harmony.
