Poll: Should Kitesurfing be run by Yachting NZ?

  • Yes Yachting NZ would support it well.

  • No it is more aligned with the surfing community and Surfing NZ should have the rights.

  • No a new association should be set up by Kitesurfers.

  • Don't know or care!

Early Saturday morning saw a jump in the swell. The local boardriders, who were due to have a comp that morning, whooped and hollered as solid 8-10 ft sets poured into the bay which left only the points and reefs as a choice for a wave. They had to delay the comp but the locals knew which spots would be handling the conditions and soon scattered.

It was pretty much a case of "for the experienced only" that morning and the Point was the only option for a while until things started to settle.

I decided to scoot round to Cape Solander where the usual diehards were taking on the usual death-pits. Some with success while others copped severe poundings. The swell was certainly catching the corner of Botany Bay and as it started to drop that afternoon I returned to Cronulla where things were a trifle more sedate by that time.

It had been a pretty heavy two days of swell but no-one knew back then of what was to follow throughout July. One of the longest periods of consistently big swell to hit Sydney for a long time was ready to test the endurance of surfers everywhere along the NSW coast. More to follow on that one later........

Cheers, Strauss
