Lids, shark biscuits, speed humps and gut sliders are just some of the names used to describe our friends the body boarders.

Often criticised by the standups for simply 'getting in the way' there are however some that take on pretty challenging waves. And it is those that do that set themselves apart from the masses of novices that often cause grief at local beaches.

Here's some pics of some ballsey boogers them doing their thing at a spot on Sydney's south side.

It's a fickle place with three separate waves on a short stretch of rocky coast which needs some size and the right tides and wind before it breaks properly. If you're lucky all three may be pumping - otherwise it's a matter of taking your pick and "risking it for a biscuit" as they say. Wipeouts here aren't too pleasant as the waves can break as intense tubes barreling across barnacle covered rock boulders strewn in shallow waters in front of a 10-15ft high rock ledge. Errors in judgement often have heavy consequences.

The 'lids' sometimes cop bad vibes from the stand ups here but on this occasion they (the standups) had long gone when the sea breezes had sprung up early afternoon making conditions less than ideal. However, late that afternoon the wind died and the conditions glassed off. The boogie boarders had it to themselves for a short one hour session before dark and made the most of it.

  • Stalling for the tube. Stalling for the tube.

Have thrown in a couple of sequences for you showing how they handle 'the drop' and stall for a bit of time in the green room.
