Poll: Should Kitesurfing be run by Yachting NZ?

  • Yes Yachting NZ would support it well.

  • No it is more aligned with the surfing community and Surfing NZ should have the rights.

  • No a new association should be set up by Kitesurfers.

  • Don't know or care!

Xmas/New Year is always a great time to jump in the wagon and head for those remote spots you don't normally get to surf.

There's nothing like the feeling when you know the swell's pumping but you're not quite sure just which spot to hit. Will Spot A be better than Spot B or should we just head straight to Spot X.

It helps if there's a hill where you can pull up for a quick check which will make your decision easier.

I recall from my early days that Raglan was probably one such place where you were suddenly confronted with a view that gave you a choice of 3 breaks - or 4 if you were really lucky to have Outside Indies firing (oh what sweet memories). There was also Piha and the choice of North or South.

But there's one such spot across the Ditch not far south of Sydney that takes the cake. Imagine pulling up, walking to the edge of the hill and having the first 11 images (above) to pick from. Where do you go? It doesn't really matter!! One thing for sure though the trip down the hill to the coast sure gets the tires squealing and brake pads smoking.

It looks like Huey is delivering the goods early over here this Xmas with a bit of size predicted for the next few days after a fairly lengthy drought. On ya Huey!!

No doubt you'll cop a few waves in your Xmas hampers from this swell as well.

All the best for the end of the year and here's hoping 2011 is a cracker.
