Poll: Should Kitesurfing be run by Yachting NZ?

  • Yes Yachting NZ would support it well.

  • No it is more aligned with the surfing community and Surfing NZ should have the rights.

  • No a new association should be set up by Kitesurfers.

Day 5

Brazilian surfer Thiago Camaro was the stand-out performer on day 5 of the O'Neill Cold Water Classic. With the contest moved back to Pines on Wainui beach, competition kicked off just before midday in small 1-2ft conditions. Camaro completed 3 big air reverse maneuvers (on separate waves) to grab the highest heat score of the day (17.17) and eliminate his fellow countryman Thomas Hermes in the process.

The swell has dropped out and the rain has continued. An early check of Pines through the haze of the rain has shown a small 2ft swell that is surfable however nothing like the great waves of the last couple of days.

The decision has been made to start the round of 16 at 11:00am at Pines.

There is a predicted increase in north east swell throughout the day. The change in tide and the predicted northwest swing for the wind could clean everything up nicely for this afternoon.
