Poll: Should Kitesurfing be run by Yachting NZ?

  • Yes Yachting NZ would support it well.

  • No it is more aligned with the surfing community and Surfing NZ should have the rights.

  • No a new association should be set up by Kitesurfers.

  • Don't know or care!

Traveling in a spaceship is not exactly the most practical thing for competing on land visiting some of Aotearoa's prize surf beaches...or is it?

The swoosh of the lines it takes and the power behind the take off, not to mention the sights you see out of the window! What an amazing feeling..gravity lets you go and your flying, if you take off your seatbelt you can slow motion backflips and forward rolls!

Okay maybe my imagination gets a little carried away and what's been described to you here is really what I saw in 3rd form science class. Although swoosh, power and wonderful exciting sights do also come in the category of my spaceship.  If you are a little lost and wondering alrighty then what is this "spaceship" she speaks of, it is my home on the road. You will have seen them zooming about with their bright orange complexion all over NZ and now the UK and Australia. Spaceships is a rental company who hire out fantastic wee runners which convert from a Toyota Lucia to a full double bed, fridge/freezer, DVD player and storage compartments complete with an awning and wicked sound system to keep you singing your way to the next destination...even if your mates have to wear ear plugs.

It's been 12 days tripping from Dunedin through to Christchurch up to experience the waves and serinity of Kai Koura, on toward Wellington to catch up with whanau and then New Plymouth to get some consistant west coast goodness and catch up with a buddy. Kai Koura is a memory of childhood camping and watching my brother draw lines on the waves which it had to offer, which were usually quality. Over the years it has gradually changed, for the good and for the bad. In New Zealand we are a bunch of incredibly privilaged people having so much feedom. It sadend me to take a stroll along the rocks and find shardes of broken bottles scattered and viciously waiting to puncture an innocent wandering sole and to park up to find toilet paper floating around the place. Freedom camping is exactly what is says but if we do not respect the land and ocean in which we use then we may not experience the same enjoyment as we have in the past.

The age old saying take only photos and leave only footprints.

Too easy :)
